Most listeners and consumers of such music don’t care… it’s not about “art” or “quality” or anything progressive. It’s about it “sounding cool/good” to them and being something they want to dance to. Most listeners don’t even understand the lyrics much less know how generally foul they are.

I saw this post on the MySpace Hip Hop forum the other day:

“Music is pissing me off, if u want to make a dollar and get fans u just need to rap about money, drugs, cars and hoes. Do people actually consider this talent. Talking about the worst things about americans, putting it over an instrumental, then striving to be like these people. What happened to the days when people wrote what they were feeling for real. Nothing wrong with rapping about money, drugs, cars or girls or any other topic. But can u please not make that the only thing u rap about just because u make what u think will sell the most copies. keep it real, or at least try to. peace out”

And this is on a secular hip hop forum, ya know? Whoever made that post MUST have seen this YouTube video.

Exactly! Lots of good stuff Plastic!
I think this has watered down many a mixtapes. (ie, b/c I can record a song and pay “X” dj some $, then I’m on a mixtape and the DJ puts out the mixtape simply b/c he/she got paid…not because the like the artist’s music or for the art of the mixtape)

I agree. Facebook is weird. The only people who care if I’m a fan of this or that probably already know it and if they want to know what I like, they can ask me. The only purpose I can think of for creating a list of things I am a fan of is if I get amnesia I can go back on facebook and remember what I like.

When you “become friends with someone” on Facebook, you can leave details about how you met each other, (again with the amnesia thing). But if I ever do get amnesia and use Facebook to help me remember, it would mess me up because for fun I’ve been putting ridiculous things in the “would like to put details on how you met?” box.

I know how it goes bro. I’ve had times where my desk was so bad it took me weeks to get everything cleared. Especially around tax time.
